The Ottoman empire strikes again

Posted in Technology by Jarle Petterson on August 3, 2008

All right, so I’m royally pissed off. Our company website has been hacked, you see — by the usual suspects, of course: Turkish hackers. Now, there’s every reason to aplaud Turkey’s attempts at remaining a secular state, as well as the country’s democratic approach, but they remain in the technological stone ages, seemingly unable to get to grips with one of their major problems: Cyber crime.

There are numerous reports of websites going down after Turk attacks. It’s been a while since the Ottoman empire last campaigned against Europe, but it would seem that their descendants are at it again, only this time there’s precious little we can do about it. Turkish authorities, on the other hand, could get rid of these criminals, if they wanted to — which, obviously, they do not.

Until they do, talks on a future Turkish EU membership should be put on hold. Yup, I’m seriously pissed off.

But rest assured: I’ll make sure to report the turkishdarbeteam.org (I wouldn’t click the link if I were you) and Dr. B4dboy (oh, my goodness) to the proper authorities, in the hope that all those who experience similar attacks do the same. These guys qualify for lifetime sentences.

What possible satisfaction could these people gain from ruining the websites of small companies, whose existence more or less depend on an adequate online presence, I wonder?

I’m sorry, I just don’t get it.
